PUK co-leader meets U.S. delegation in Erbil

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) co-leader Bafel Talabani met with a U.S. delegation including Brigadier General John Teichert in Erbil, stressing on cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and the United States.

Talabani and the U.S. delegation discussed the latest security, security and economic developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, according to a statement released by the PUK co-leader’s office.

“They stressed on cooperation and assistance between the Kurdistan Region and the United States in order to preserve stability and security in the region,” the statement read.

Both sides also reaffirmed that Islamic State (ISIS) still posed a threat to the security and tranquility of the region, the statement said.

They also agreed that “it is the duty of all sides to confront terror and efforts should be increased for that reason,” according to the statement.

The PUK co-leader called for more cooperation and assistance of the United States for the Kurdistan Region, it stated.
