SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) said on Saturday that its fighters had killed two senior Islamic State (ISIS) members in an ambush in north of Baghdad.
PMF, also known as Hashid al-Shaabi, said its fighters killed two senior members of the Islamic State and another militant during clashes with the group.
Three Hashid al-Shaabi fighters were killed and two others were wounded in the clashes, the group said.
The federal government announced victory over Islamic State by the end of 2017 after Iraqi and Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led Coalition regained control of areas once captured by the militant group.
Despite its defeat, ISIS still poses a threat to the security and stability of the country as there are still sleeper cells in Iraq.
