SULAIMANI – (ESTA) Bafel Jalal Talabani, the president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has been elected as one of the leaders of the progressive coalition parties, representing the entire Middle East and North Africa region.
Together, the world’s social democratic parties, called the Progressive Alliance, hold annual meetings and elect candidates to represent them in different parts of the world.
This year’s meetings were held in Chile, where the PUK was elected to represent the Swedish Social Democrats, the Chilean Socialist Party, the Modern Revolutionary Party of the Dominican Republic, the Mongolian People’s Party, the Indian National Congress, the Australian Labor Party and the Zimbabwean Citizens’ Alliance for Change in the entire Middle East and North Africa.
The coalition meetings are a way for parties to connect and implement the Social Democratic Party’s agenda around the world.
Docter Dara Khaylani, a member of the leadership and head of the PUK delegation who represented the PUK in Santiago, Chile, said, “Bafel Jalal Talabani is one of the leaders of the progressive coalition, which is a leadership council and has nine co-chairmen, including President Bafel.”.
“The coalition includes 119 social democratic parties in the world and the presidency for President Bafel and the PUK is an important political achievement among the 119 parties in the world for the PUK and a Kurdish party,” he said.
Also, Khaylani said that “three Kurdish parties and the Arab Democratic Cooperation Coalition, which are 13 parties, together supported the PUK and President Bafel to be elected as one of the nine co-chairmen of the progressive coalition.”.
He added that “Before his illness, President Mam Jalal made great efforts for this purpose and the role of the PUK was significant in important issues related to the Social Democrats and the PUK is one of the founders of the progressive coalition.”.
The coalition has 40 board members, two of whom are for the PUK, nine co-chairmen and one for Bafel Jalal Talabani the PUK president.
Dr. Dara Khaylani said that “the vision of Bafel Jalal Talabani and the PUK will play an important role in the strategy and worldview of the social democratic world and in the management of the coalition.”.
