Court sentences ex-Nineveh official to prison over bribe charges

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — An Iraqi court on Monday sentenced an ex-government official to five years in prison over bribe charges, according to an official statement by the high judicial council.

Nineveh criminal court issued the verdict sentencing Ra’ad Abasi who worked as former deputy governor of Mosul province for planning affairs to serve five years in prison.

The convict is charged per Article 308 of bribe crimes. He had received a bribe from a construction company, according to the statement.

An additional fine penalty of five million Iraqi Dinars has been imposed on the convict by the court as well.
