SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al Sudani discussed bilateral ties with the French President on Sunday amid a phone call.
Iraq’s Premier office in a statement revealed Sudani has received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron, discussing the two countries bilateral ties.
The officials also discussed common interests, and ways to develop the Iraqi-French partnership in various fields, according to the office.
The Iraqi statement further said that Sudani reiterated his country’s “keenness” on its mediating and balanced approach towards regional and international issues.
Apart from this Macron’s office in a separate statement said that President Macron has invited Iraq’s Sudani to a meeting in France early in 2023 following the leaders’ phone call.
“Macron said the two leaders have agreed to reinforce bilateral cooperation between France and Iraq and that France would help Iraq in its fight against terrorism and attacks on its sovereignty,” said Macron’s office.
France has previously condemned strikes claimed by Iran against Kurdish targets inside Iraq, calling for the security of the autonomous region of Kurdistan to be respected.
