SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) colonel Davoud Jafari who also used to be an adviser to the Corps’ Aerospace Forces was killed in Syria on Wednesday morning.
Semi-official Iranian Tasnim News agency cited IRGC’s public relations department as saying that a “serviceman” has been killed after a roadside bomb near the Syrian capital, Damascus.
No group has claimed the bombing but IRGC blamed Israel for the killing of the senior aerospace officer near the country’s capital.
“The martyr was an adviser of the IRGC Aerospace Force in Syria who lost his life after a roadside bomb explosion near Damascus at the hands of the Zionist regime’s elements,” IRGC quoted as saying.
Israeli officials have yet to comment on the incident while IRGC vowed to avenge the death.
Since the Syrian civil war broke out in 2011, Iran has been a prominent supporter of Syrian President Bashar Assad in the war-torn country, sending thousands of Iran-backed fighters from around the region to fight alongside the Syrian regime.
