SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A rocket attack on Monday in Turkey’s Gaziantep province hit a residential area and caused casualties, according to the governor.
An attack by rocket attributed to Kurdish groups from northern Syria hit a school, two houses, and a truck in the Karkamis district, near a border gate in the province, governor Davut Gul said.
Gul added that six had been wounded as the result. Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu later said three had died, confirming the land of six rockets.
Broadcaster CNN Turk said the rockets were fired from the Kobani area of Syria, controlled by the Syrian Kurdish YPG group.
In response to the attack, Turkey’s armed forces were retaliating, the defense ministry said in a statement.
Turkish warplanes had already carried out air strikes on Kurdish militant bases in Syria and the Kurdistan Region Sunday, destroying 89 targets, authorities in Ankara said.
