Diplomatic missions condemn latest Iranian attack

Smoke rises after Iran bombards a mountainous area in Bradost region, September 10, 2021.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Foreign diplomatic missions in the Kurdistan Region have condemned renewed Iranian attack in the early hours of Monday, targeting the Kurdish dissident sites.

Positions of Kurdish opposition were struck by Iran’s Islamic Republic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) missiles and bomb-laden drones again in different places of the Kurdistan Region.

U.S. and UK consulates in Erbil condemned the attack.

Last night saw another Iranian violation of Iraqi sovereignty. Iranian missile and drone strikes place, innocent civilians, at risk and result in the destruction of Iraqi infrastructure,” read a statement on the Facebook page of the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil.

“These reckless attacks on the Iraqi Kurdistan Region must stop,” the post added.

In the meantime, The British Consul General said “Once again, residents of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region face missile and drone strikes by the IRGC. Since September, these attacks have killed at least 12 people and injured and displaced many more.”

“The UK stands with the Iraqi Kurdistan Region in the face of this aggression. Our message is clear: stop,” he tweeted.

UNAMI has also condemned the attack.

“Such aggression not only recklessly heightens tensions but also causes tragedy. Whatever external score a neighboring country is seeking to settle, the use of established diplomatic instruments is the only way forward,”

“repeated attacks, violating Iraqi sovereignty, must cease,” it added.
