SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A clash erupted between a unit of Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and the Islamic State (ISIS) remnants after a terrorist uprooting operation on Saturday in the south Garmian administration.
Iraqi media reported in pre-dawn hours amid the launching of an ISIS uprooting operation in Hamrin Mountain PMF forces engaged in a clash with a number of terrorists who were hiding near their hostels.
It also caused casualties among the PMF forces, the exchange of fires injured at least six militants of the Iran-backed force and killed another.
No information is available on whether PMF killed any ISIS militants or not.
Hamrin mountain range and the surrounding remote areas are turned into a hotspot for ISIS remnants since its major defeat by the Kurdish and Iraqi forces in 2017.
The remnants of militants built a large number of hide-outs and dens in what is so-known as the disputed areas, claimed by both the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Federal government.
ISIS exploited the space to regroup and carry out partisan attacks inside the area’s security vacuum.
