SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Iraqi Council of Representatives would discuss the Turkish troops’ presence in the Kurdistan Region, said an Iraqi lawmaker on Saturday.
The Iraqi Prime Minister has forwarded the issue of the Turkish troops’ presence to the parliament, lawmaker from the state of law coalition faction Mohammed Al Shammari told Iraqi media.
“The Iraqi legislators want to touch upon that dossier, they demand Turkish troops’ withdrawal as well as other foreign forces,” and “government must set a date for that process,” the lawmaker said.
He also called the Turkish troops’ presence in the Kurdistan Region territory as a “danger” that breaches Iraq’s sovereignty.
Iraq has repeatedly accused Turkey of violating its sovereignty by entering its territory without permission, including Turkey’s military presence in the bases, particularly in the Kurdistan Region.
Turkey regularly conducts cross-border operations on the PKK bases in the Region, despite Iraq’s repeated protests.
