SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi President Latif Rashid arrived in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh on Sunday where United Nations Climate Change summit of 2022 is scheduled to take place, his office said.
Iraqi President who is also leading an official delegation is now landed in Egypt to partake in the United Nations Climate Change Conference, commonly known as COP27, from 6 to 18 November 2022.
The President’s visit came after he was earlier received a significant invitation letter from U.S. Ambassador Alina L. Romanowski which was specifically written for the President by John Kerry, U.S. special presidential envoy for climate, according to his office.
Rashid will deliver a speech regarding climate issues at the conference, Esta Media Network has learned.
The COP27 event is set to be hosted in Sharm El-Sheikh during which the participants discuss the climate crises. While the event is expected to welcome over 35,000 delegates and over 2,000 speakers from around the globe.
“Iraq wants to join the efforts, confronting the climate crises with strength because it’s one the countries that the climate change has made a significant effect on its environment and economy and people’s livelihood,” Back in October, the President’s office said in a statement.
Iraq is particularly vulnerable to climate change, having already witnessed record low rainfall and high temperatures in recent years.
