SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The U.S. Ambassador to Iraq on Wednesday demonstrated her country’s support to the freshly elected Iraqi government.
U.S. Ambassador Alina Romanowski delivered a speech at The Middle East Research Institute (MERI) annual forum in Erbil, addressing the attendance on overall Iraq’s political situation.
The Ambassador stated that the U.S. government offer its support and aid to the newly elected government led by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani.
She elaborated on the support’s aim by adding that they are to confront “financial” as well as “administration” corruption and conduct reforms within Iraq’s economic sector.
“The U.S. will not withdraw from Iraq, as President Biden stated, we will stay in this country,” she said.
The U.S. has way long commitment to Iraq, supporting the country in various fields, according to the Ambassador’s words.
Regarding the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Romanowski commended its efforts in the new government formation. Meanwhile, she clearly demanded the KRG and the Federal government resolves their outstanding issues.
“KRG plays a significant role in the success or failure of the government in Baghdad,” Romanowski added.
She further stated that the “Kurdish unity will strengthen voice in Baghdad and prevent outsiders from coming in.”
The Kurdistan Region Capital hosted the second day of the two-day MERI 2022 annual forum, during which local and international leaders and experts address the various political, security, economic, and environmental challenges currently facing Iraq.
