SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region Health Ministry on Friday warned of India-made children’s cough syrups after the World Health Organization said the products were linked to the deaths of dozens of children in the Gambia.
A global alert has been issued over four cough syrups after the World Health Organization (WHO) warned they could be linked to the deaths of 66 children in The Gambia.
These types of Syrups are also unpermitted and prohibited in the Kurdistan Region, a statement issued by the Health Ministry said.
The WHO identified the medicines as Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, Makoff Baby Cough Syrup, and Magrip N Cold Syrup.
“These four products are not permitted to be exported to the Kurdistan Region and they don’t have use permission as well,” it said.
The Ministry warned the Region’s citizens to avoid using them in the possibility of being smuggled into the markets, the statement said.
“The pharmacies shall only deal with medicines that are official and have permissions,” the Ministry added.
