President Zelensky says Turkey would set up drone factory in Ukraine

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkey would set up a drone production factory in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday said. 

The Head of the popular domestic drone production firm in Turkey, Baykar, met with the Ukrainian President. And Zelensky said that The company would set up a factory in Ukraine to build unmanned aerial vehicles.

Baykar’s Bayraktar TB2 was firstly manufactured for the Turkish forces, and it won many worldwide contracts, playing a major in the ongoing Russian-Ukraine conflict.

Bayraktar TB2, hugely helped the Ukrainian army to destroy many Russian artillery systems and armored vehicles.

“We discussed the details of the construction of the Baykar factory in Ukraine and the production of new goods using Ukrainian components,” Zelensky said in an online post after meeting Baykar Chief Executive Haluk Bayraktar in Kyiv.

A video posted online showed Zelenskiy giving Bayraktar the Ukrainian Order of Merit. In return, Zelenskiy received a traditional embroidered Ukrainian shirt featuring a drone.

Russia has previously complained to Turkey over its sale of drones to Ukraine.

Baykar has ties to the family of Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. One of its top engineers, Selcuk Bayraktar, is married to Erdogan’s daughter, Sumeyye.
