SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Top Kurdish and Iraqi officials mourned after Britain’s longest-serving monarch Queen Elizabeth II passed away at 96 in Scotland on Thursday.
Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, the nation’s figurehead, and a towering presence on the world stage for seven decades, died peacefully at Scotland’s Balmoral Castle, on Thursday aged 96.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. I extend profound condolences to the royal family and to the people of the United Kingdom” Iraqi President Barham Salih said. “Queen Elizabeth will be remembered as a great icon of history who served with grace, dignity, and fortitude. Barham” He added.
At the same time, President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani in a statement extended his deepest condolences to the United Kingdom’s Royal Family and the people of Britain.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” President Barzani said, and adding “My thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family, and the people of the United Kingdom during this difficult time.”
“Like countless people around the world, I’m mourning the death of an extraordinary woman,” Deputy of the Kurditan Region Prime Minister Qubad Talabani Tweeted.
“Our deep and sincere sympathies to the British people and Britain’s Royal Family. Queen Elizabeth II was respected and cherished the world over. We extend our condolences to King Charles III, and stress the continued partnership between our two countries.” Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said.
