SULAIMANI (ESTA) — President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani met a high-level German delegation on Wednesday in Erbil.
President Talabani received deputy to the German Ambassador in Iraq and deputy to German Consul General in the Kurdistan Region at the PUK’s headquarters in Erbil.
The German delegation has bided their congratulations to Talabani on being elected as the President of the PUK and wished Talabani success in his new historic endeavor, according to a press release.
During the meeting, President Talabani discussed the political situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with the German delegation, the press release said.
“Unity and shared perspective of the Kurdish forces in Baghdad is the stage’s necessary need,” Talabani said, telling the German delegation that “The Kurds can play a more effective and stronger role in Baghdad.”
Another part of the meeting focused on enhancing the bilateral ties between the Kurdistan Region and Germany, particularly stressed economic ties.
“We encourage German businessmen to invest their wealth in the Kurdistan Region, and this makes the Region get a stronger economic infrastructure, we will strongly support them” President Talabani continued.
