SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Sadrist movement on Monday boycotted the second round of talks between the top leaders of the Iraqi parties after the Prime Minister launched an initiative for dialogue.

Following an invitation directed by Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to the leader of Iraqi political parties, leaders were met in Baghdad at the government palace, pursuing a solution to reduce the political tensions in the country week after bloody unrest of Baghdad.

The meeting was attended by the three Presidencies and the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, the Prime Minister’s office said.

All leaders have agreed on maintaining the security and stability of Iraq which is a shared responsibility for all to protect the country against further deepening crises, according to the PM’s office.

It was the second round of talks, similar took place earlier but just the same, the Sadrist movement and its leader, the powerful Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr rejected to join.

These initiatives aim to put an end to a political deadlock in the country that prolonged for more than a ten-month since an election in October 2021, triggering the worst political crisis which lately trapped the country in a short-range of bloody armed conflict between rival Shiite groups.
