SULAIMANI (ESTA) — U.S. Assistant Secretary of State will travel to the Middle East including Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to meet with senior officials, a press release on Sunday said.
Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara A. Leaf is set to take a visit to Iraq and the Middle East from August 29 to September 9, she is expected to visit the Kurdistan Region capital, Erbil, according to a press release from the U.S. department of state.
“The Assistant Secretary will conclude her travel with a visit to Baghdad and Erbil from September 4-9 where she will meet with Iraqi government officials, civil society members, entrepreneurs, journalists, and members of parliament,” the press release read.
The state news agency INA reported the Senior U.S. official, Leaf, has confirmed that the U.S. administration is closely following the Iraqi political scene.
Leaf also commented on the Sadrist movement and its leader as well, saying, “the voice of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, and other leaders should be heard,” INA said.
