SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussien met President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ibrahim Raisi, The state news agency reported on Tuesday.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister arrived in the Iran capital earlier on Monday and met the senior officials including his Iranian counterpart there, according to the Ministry’s spokesperson.
The Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported that the Minister met Iran’s President Raisi as well and conveyed an oral on behalf of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
The Iraqi official discussed the security and political situation in Baghdad with Raisi said INA. “The developments of the regional and international situation and its repercussions on the security and stability of Iraq and the region were discussed” it added.
Hussein’s visit to Iran coincided with the two days of deadly unrest in Iraq, chaos began when Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr announced he would resign from politics. And his supporters stormed the Green Zone, once the stronghold of the U.S. military and now home to Iraqi government offices and foreign embassies. They eventually breached the gates of the government palace.
Meanwhile, after Hussein’s meeting with Raisi, spokesperson to the Iraqi Foreign Minister Ahmed Al-Sahaf talked with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan on a phone call concerning the outcomes of his recent visit to Tehran, Bin Farhan’s country has an old-rooted hostility with Iran.
“The two sides discussed the outcomes of Fuad Hussein’s visit to Tehran, and the positive effects it reflects on the bilateral relations between Riyadh and Tehran,” INA said, part of Iraq’s Hussein and Iran’s President discussions were dedicated to talking over the ties between the two regional countries.
