SULAIMANI (ESTA) — At least 33 migrants were rescued by Turkish coastal guards who were forcibly deported by Greek authorities through the Aegean Sea according to a watchdog on Friday.
Lutka Foundation for Refugees and Displaced Affairs said, Turkish coastal gourds rescued 33 illegal migrants forcibly deported from Greek waters to Izmir province waters in Turkey.
“They were rescued while on two separate boats,” and “they have been sent to Mugla migrants camp after Turkish authorities completed the measures,” Representative of Lutka Foundation Kurda Yashar said.
“Deporting the migrants out of their willing for any reason is far from the human values” the watchdog President Ari Jalal quoted.
The migrants were stranded in the sea at least for two days before they were rescued, as the watchdog said.
“We have been trying for many years to stop forcible deportation, but unfortunately the process is still ongoing and it’s a mental violence against the migrants,” Jalal said.
Over the past few years, thousands from the Middle East have taken the dangerous illegal sea route to reach Europe’s heartland, seeking a better life and economic opportunities.
Migrants mostly enter Europe mostly by going through Mediterranean waters, routing from Turkey, and lesser by land which became a more uncommon way due to heavily fortified borders between the European countries.
Taking Mediterranean waters illegally has resulted in many tragic stories of drowning and missing through that live-risking route.
