SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (ICTS) killed six members of Islamic State militants amid an operation on Saturday striking their hostels near the Hamrin mountain.

ICTS in a statement announced it managed to strike the enemy’s hostels near the Hamrin mountain, northeast Iraq, after intelligence investigation and careful monitoring.

Six members of Islamic State militants were killed including a key leader who supervised assassinations and kidnappings of citizens and the security forces, according to the statement.

“As the duty resulted in the killing of (6) members of the Takfiri gangs of ISIS, among whom are known By “Abu Maryam Al-Qahtani” Who was supervising assassinations and kidnappings of citizens and the security forces by setting up fictitious controls near the areas surrounding the Hamrin Mountains,” It said.

Hamrin mountain range and the surrounding remote areas are turned into a hotspot for Islamic State terrorist group militants since its major defeat by the Kurdish and the Iraqi forces in 2017.

The remnants of militants built a large number of hide-outs and dens in what is so-known as the disputed areas between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal government. They utilized the space to regroup and carry out partisan attacks inside the area’s security vacuum.
