SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Influential Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr refused to engage in Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi’s initiative on Wednesday aimed at de-escalation by launching a national dialogue on Wednesday.
PM Kadhimi has launched an initiative, inviting the rival Iraqi leaders to a meeting in the government palace situated in Baghdad.
The meeting is organized to find a way out from the government formation deadlock which has been postponed for a record of Ten-months, and leaders are expected to convene today.
Parties enthusiastically accepted Kadhimi’s call, however, there was no immediate response from the Sadrist movement, representing massive people of the Iraqi Shiites and the blocker of the Iraqi parliament to convene on the government formation talks.
“The Sadrist movement will not participate in the national dialogue initiated by Prime Minister” It announced in a statement.
