Turkey urges authorities in Iraq to protect its diplomatic missions

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkey’s ministry of foreign affairs denounced on Wednesday this earlier night attack on the Turkish general consulate in Mosul.

Earlier on Wednesday’s pre-dawn, The Turkish general consulate in Mosul came under rocket attack by a Shia militia group that called themselves Saraya al-Ababil.

In footage released on Twitter, the Ababil militia group claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was an act of vengeance for Turkey’s deadly bombing which targeted a resort in Duhok’s Parakh village which killed and injured 34 Arab tourists.

“Turkey condemns this attack, in which no casualties were reported, in the strongest terms and expects those responsible to be brought to justice as soon as possible” the ministry in a statement said.

“We firmly request from the Iraqi authorities to fulfill their responsibilities in protecting diplomatic and consular missions,” it said.

“We once again reiterate our call to the Iraqi authorities to focus on the fight against terrorism and to put an end to terrorist presence on their territory which poses a threat to neighboring countries and diplomatic missions” it added.

Attacks on the Turkish bases have been escalated by Shia militia groups, since Turkey’s deadly attack on Parakh’s resort earlier on Wednesday.
