SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq’s central bank allocated 17 trillion Iraqi dinars to encounter drought and desertification in the country, said the bank governor on Friday.
In a statement central bank Governor, Mustafa Ghaleb said, in coordination with the ministry of agriculture and water resource held a joint workshop regarding the effects of climate change and desertification of the country.
“We decided to allocate 17 trillion dinars to purchase green energy production units,” he said.
Iraq faces an extreme drought for the third year in a row due to low rainfalls, it is classified as one of the world’s five countries most vulnerable to climate change and desertification.
Despite the concerns about environmental issues among the locals, political instability inside the country has worsened the situation twice.
