SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Teachers in the Lebanon’s SABIS education system schools have gone on a strike in Erbil and Soran due to delays in payment, Esta Media Network reporter said on Tuesday.

Esta’s reporter in Erbil said the teachers of Sarwaran International School and Fakhir Mergasori International School well as Soran International School had gone on strikes for three days.

The three schools were opened along with several others in Duhok and Sulaimani provinces between 2006 and 2012 as part of the SABIS public-private partnership project, based on the vision of former prime minister Nechirvan Barzani, who is now the president of the Region, according to Soran international school website.

The reporter said the teachers of the three schools had not gotten paid in the past three months.

“They have boycotted classes and call for their salaries to be paid,” the reporter added.

Part of the teachers also call for an amount of payment for the extra time they teach after 12 p.m., he said.

Authorities in Sulaimani, however, said there was no such issue at the SABIS education system schools in the province.

“So far, there is no such issue here and nothing was told to us,” Deputy Director of Education in Sulaimani Omer Mohammed told Esta Media Network.

SABIS operates schools in 20 countries on five continents, according to the education network.
