SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The U.N. Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) warned of possible “disturbances” by organized armed group (OAG) in Erbil in the coming hours.

In a statement dated Friday, the UNDSS said it had received “reliable information” that the OAG had plans to create “disturbances” in the citadel area in Erbil in the next 48 hours.

“The type of attack and the exact time is currently unavailable however, unconfirmed information suggest that caution needs to be exercised while visiting the Citadel area,” the UNDSS added.

It further said Kurdish security forces were on “high alert” and that additional police personnel was deployed to the area.

It also called on the U.N. personnel in Erbil to maintain personal security situational awareness and to avoid public gathering and crowded areas in Erbil.
