SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkish defense ministry said its forces had “neutralized” 13 fighters from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region, as Ankara continues to launch cross-border operations against the group.

The ministry said in a statement on Friday that eight PKK fighters were “neutralized” during Operation Pence-Yildirim in Avashin-Basyan area in the Kurdistan Region.

The other five PKK fighters were targeted during Operation Pence-Simsek in Matin region in Duhok province, it said on Friday.

Turkey uses “neutralize” term for targets who have been killed or wounded.

The PKK has yet to confirm the figures.

Turkey has taken its decades-old conflict with the PKK deep into the Kurdistan Region, establishing military bases and deploying armed military drones against the fighters in their mountain strongholds.

Most of the operations have focused on territory up to 30 km (20 miles) from the border.
