SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced Sunday and Monday will be official holidays in the Kurdistan Region in recognition of Iraq’s general election.
The KRG Department of Media and Information said on Saturday that the government had decided to add one-day holiday this week due to the Iraqi parliamentary election.
Government offices will be closed for ordinary business on Sunday and Monday.
The Iraqi Council of Ministers said earlier that that October 10 and 11 would be official holidays in the country.
Iraqis headed to polling stations on Sunday to elect a new parliament in the fifth such vote since U.S.-led invasion that topped dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003.
