SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A Peshmerga and three members of the Iraqi federal police died in two separate car crashes in Kirkuk province on Friday, authorities said, as special voting for Iraq’s early election began in the country.
A car crash between a truck and two vehicles, one of which was a bus carrying Iraq’s federal policemen, occurred in Kirkuk on Friday morning, said head of Kirkuk governorate’s press office Marwan al-Ani.
Three federal policemen were killed and 26 others were injured, he added.
In another incident, a Peshmerga died and another was injured after their car crashed near Tuz Khurmatu, south of Kirkuk.
In a statement, the Peshmerga ministry said the crash took place after the two Peshmerga returned from a polling station where they cast their ballots for special voting in Iraq’s parliamentary election.
The incident comes as more than 1 million members of the Iraqi and Kurdish forces as well as prisoners and displaced persons cast ballots for special voting in Iraq’s parliamentary election, two days ahead of national polls.
