SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-president Bafel Talabani reaffirmed the party’s policy to tackle issues peacefully and politically.
Talabani met with a delegation from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), led by Meral Danis Bestas, in Sulaimani on Tuesday, according to his press office.
The two sides discussed developing and expanding relations between the parties in an attempt to reach understanding and find “mutual language” to overcome the issues, Talabani’s office said in a statement.
“We support attempts that establish security and tranquility in the region and revive the spirit of coexistence,” Talabani said.
Regarding the formation of Kurdistan Coalition, Talabani said it was a national attempt for unity and reconciliation among Kurds.
“We want to defend rights of Kurdish nation in Baghdad and secure our constitutional rights,” he added.
The HDP delegation welcomed the Kurdistan Coalition, considering it as an “important step” to defend Kurds’ rights in Baghdad, the statement read.
