Two people killed in ISIS ‘ambush’ in Kifri – reporter

News

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — At least two people were killed in an Islamic State (ISIS) “ambush” in Kifri district in Garmian administration on Tuesday, Esta Media Network reporter said.

The reporter said ISIS remnants set up an “ambush” between Kifri district and Sarqala sub-district in Garmian on Tuesday evening.

The militants opened fire at a vehicle passing through the area, the reporter said.

Two people were killed and another was wounded in the “ambush”, he added.

Kurdish security forces have started to search the area, according to the reporter.

In 2017 Baghdad announced victory over the militant group, and attacks in Iraqi cities have since become much rarer, although troops continue to fight ISIS sleeper cells in mountainous and desert areas.

The militants still mount deadly operations, mostly at night and in remote areas.
