SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Security forces have detained the main suspect of killing and wounding two persons, including a Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) member in Sulaimani, authorities said on Saturday.

A joint operation room between Asayish forces, intelligence units, counter-terrorism forces and police was formed under the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani to find perpetrators who wounded and killed two people in Sulaimani city last week, the room said in a statement.

“After intensifying efforts, the plot was revealed in less than 24 hours and the main criminal of the two acts was detained,” the joint operation room added.

On Friday, a gunman killed Sarhad Shukri, member of the PKK committee of Martyrs’ Family, in Sulaimani’s Chwarchra neighborhood.

Another PKK follower, Farhad Barsh, was injured in the province on Thursday.

“The suspect was taken to court to receive his legal punishment,” the joint operation room said.

Earlier on Saturday, director of Parastin and Zanyari/Zanyari Agency Azhi Amin said perpetrators who carried out crimes in the past days in Sulaimani were arrested.

“We will release evidence and confession to the public soon,” he wrote on his Facebook.

On Friday, the Counter-Terrorism Service in Sulaimani said it had gathered information about the incidents took place in the province in the past 48 hours.

“No conspiracy will mislead Sulaimani and its security institutions,” it added.
