Bafel Talabani says coordination between Kurdistan Region and Saudi Arabia ‘important’

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-president Bafel Talabani said on Sunday coordination between the Kurdistan Region and Saudi Arabia is “important”, calling for developing relations.

Talabani met with Saudi Ambassador to Iraq Abdul Aziz bin Khalid al-Shammari in Sulaimani on Sunday, according to his press office.

Talabani and Shammari discussed the development of relation and partnership between the Region and Saudi Arabia during the meeting, attended by Iraqi justice minister Salar Abdul Sattar, his office said in a statement.

Talabani stressed the need to develop relations in various fields, describing “coordination and joint work between the Kurdistan Region and Saudi Arabia as important”, the statement read.

The Saudi diplomat, for his part, spoke of the importance of late president Mam Jalal’s wise policy of building a “strong relationship” between Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, according to the statement.

He also stressed the development of relations between Saudi Arabia and the Region, the statement said.
