SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Islamic State (ISIS) militants destroyed four vehicles of the Iraqi forces in an attack in west of Kirkuk, Iraqi media reported late on Sunday.

National Iraqi news agency cited a security source as saying ISIS militants attacked a military point of Iraq’s federal police near the village of al-Marata in Hawija district on Sunday night.

A member of the federal police was killed and four vehicles as well as a thermal camera were destroyed in the attack, the source added.

Meanwhile, Shafaq news reported the attack took place near the villages of al-Khalidiya and al-Khazifi in Kirkuk and that three vehicles were destroyed.

In 2017 Baghdad announced victory over the militant group, and attacks in Iraqi cities have since become much rarer, although troops continue to fight ISIS sleeper cells in mountainous and desert areas.

The militants still mount deadly operations, mostly at night and in remote areas.
