SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces detained eight Syrians who were trying to cross into Iraq from Syria, Iraq’s military said late on Sunday.

Iraqi security media cell said the people were arrested in an “ambush” in the areas of Rajm al-Abid and Bir Adam, north of Sinjar.

The group holds Syrian nationality, the statement read.

The Iraqi forces have detained dozens of Syrians for attempting to cross into Iraq from Syria in the past months.

Iraq has tightened security along 600 km border with Syria to curb the movement of Islamic State (ISIS) militants, drug smuggling and other illegal activities.
