SULAIMANI (ESTA) — An Iraqi militia group on Sunday claimed responsibility for attacks on convoys belonging to the U.S.-led Coalition forces in the country.

Iraqi media reported on Sunday that convoys carrying Coalition’s logistical support were targeted by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Dhi Qar, Babil and south of Baghdad.

There was no comment from the U.S.-led Coalition, but it had said outlaw militants were attacking Iraqi civilian-contracted logistic convoys driven by Iraqi civilians, transporting equipment for Iraq’s forces.

“We claim responsibility for three specific operations targeting logistical support belonging to the U.S. army in three different locations,” said Qasem al-Jabbarin Brigade, a Kataib Hezbollah-directed facade group, according to Shafaq News.

“The attacks are in response to the right to defend the land from the American occupation forces and to avenge the blood of the leaders,” it added.

According to Washington Institute, Qasem al-Jabbarin brigade is a Kataib Hezbollah-directed facade group that specializes in roadside bombings against Iraqi supply trucks servicing the U.S. military in Iraq.

The attack was the latest in a series of attacks on convoys transferring logistical support for the Iraqi security forces in the country.

The United States blames Iran-backed militias for regular attacks on U.S. facilities and convoys in Iraq.
