SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Flights between Sulaimani and Istanbul will resume next week, a local official said on Wednesday.

“We have received an official letter from Turkish Airlines to resume flights between Sulaimani and Istanbul and vice versa,” Director of Sulaimani International Airport Tahir Abdullah told Esta Media Network.

The first flight is scheduled for Monday (October 26), Abdullah said, and there will be two scheduled flights per week.

The first flight between Erbil and Istanbul is scheduled for Tuesday (October 27), according to Erbil international airport.

On Oct. 15, Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority said flights between Iraq and Turkey were resumed, but it did not explain to which airports the flights had restarted.

Turkey suspended flights to and from Iraq in August as part of measures against the novel coronavirus. It also extended the suspension through September as cases in Iraq continued to rise. The Turkish civil aviation authority extended the ban on October 1 until October 14.
