SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Head of Kurdistan Coalition Qubad Talabani said on Saturday the coalition wants Kurds to unite in Baghdad to defend rights of the Kurdistan Region’s people.
Talabani, the Kurdistan Region’s prime minister, was selected as the head of the Kurdistan coalition by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran) on Thursday.
Talabani paid a visit to Gorran headquarters in Sulaimani city for talks on mechanisms and ways to work during the election campaign, which started July 8.
“We will gather all of our forces so as to succeed the coalition so that we will provide the best service to the people of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq,” Talabani said in a press conference.
“We want to restore stability and tranquility. We want Kurds in Baghdad to be together in order to strongly defend the rights of the Kurdistan Region’s people,” he added.
Kurdistan Coalition Rapporteur Darbaz Mohammed said the meetings would continue.
“We want to restore tranquility for the political process and the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad,” he added.
In June, the PUK and Gorran movement signed their agreement in a ceremony to form the Kurdistan Coalition for the elections.
Iraq is scheduled to hold early parliamentary elections on October 10, which was one of the main demands of anti-government protesters who organized months of mass demonstrations beginning in October 2020.
The vote is held every four years, but anti-government protesters demanded early elections.
