Iraq records 13,515 coronavirus cases in highest daily increase

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq recorded its second-biggest daily increase in coronavirus infections on Wednesday with 13,515 cases, taking its total so far to 1,590,528, the health ministry said.

It reported 66 fatalities to take its coronavirus death toll to 18,484, official data published by the health ministry showed.

As many as 1,517 cases were in Duhok, 1,146 in Sulaimani and 805 in Erbil, according to the ministry’s data.

The daily tally of cases has been rising since marking the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday, which traditionally includes social gatherings where infections could spread and as many Iraqis flout safety and health measures.

The health ministry said on Wednesday that 1,575,559 people have been vaccinated so far.
