SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Three Turkish soldiers were killed in clashes with Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region this week, according to Turkey’s defense ministry.
Two Turkish soldiers were killed and another was injured in clashes with PKK fighters in Khwakurk region in Duhok province, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
The ministry said in a separate statement on Monday that a Turkish was killed in an attack by the PKK fighters as they were on a “road patrol” in Khwakurk.
Turkey has taken its decades-old conflict with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) deep into the Kurdistan Region, establishing military bases and deploying armed military drones against the fighters in their mountain strongholds.
Most of the operations have focused on territory up to 30 km (20 miles) from the border.
