Kolbar shot dead by Iranian forces in Baneh: watchdog

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A Kolbar (porter) was shot dead by Iranian security forces on Monday, Hengaw Organization for Human Rights said on Tuesday.

The organization said Iranian security forces opened fire at a number of Kolbars in Baneh country in northwest of Iran.

A Kolbar, named Faraidun Salihi, was killed in the shooting, said the organization, which monitors human rights abuses in Iranian Kurdistan.

Kolbar news said on Telegram that as many as 12 Kolbars were injured in the attack.

Dozens of people gathered outside Salahaddin Ayubi hospital in Baneh late on Monday, protesting against the killing and wounding of the Kolbars.

A number of other people also protested outside the office of mayor in Baneh.

Kolbars carry goods across the mountainous border between Iran, Iraq and Turkey on their backs. They frequently come under fire from Iranian border guards.
