SULAIMANI (ESTA) — At least three Iraqi soldiers were wounded in Diyala province late on Saturday, as Islamic State (ISIS) militants continued to attack security forces in the country.

Iraqi media reported that a group of ISIS militants attacked a military point in Khums Jusour area in north of Miqdadiyah, 30 kilometers northeast of Baquba.

Three Iraqi soldiers were injured in the attack.

Separately, the Popular Mobilization (PMF), also known as Hashid al-Shaabi, foiled an ISIS attack in the village of al-Qalaa, north of Miqdadiyah.

No casualties were reported.

The militant group has increased attacks against civilians and security forces Kirkuk, Diyala, Nineveh, Saladin and Baghdad.

On Friday, the militant group attacked a military post in the village of Idris Arab in Dibis district, northwest of Kirkuk.

A civilian was killed and two others were wounded in an ambush by the ISIS militants in Prde sub-district, north of Kirkuk.

The federal government announced victory over ISIS by the end of 2017 after Iraqi and Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led Coalition regained control of areas once captured by the militant group.

Despite its defeat, ISIS still poses a threat to the security and stability of the country as there are still sleeper cells in Iraq.
