Two Turkish soldiers injured in IED attack in Iraq’s Nineveh: official

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Two Turkish soldiers were wounded in an explosion targeting a military vehicle in Nineveh province, a local official said on Saturday.

Mayor of Shekhan district Sardar Sheikh Yahya said an improvised explosive device (IED) hit a Turkish military vehicle in Zilkan sub-district at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

A Turkish military base in located in the sub-district in Shekan district, northwest of Erbil.

“Perpetrators behind the attack are still unknown and investigations into the attack have begun,” Yahya told Esta Media Network.

It was the second attack on Turkish personnel stationed in the sub-district. In April, three rockets fired at the Turkish military base, killing a soldier.

Turkey has troops in Iraq both as part of a NATO contingent and a force that has attacked the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
