Up to 80 children hospitalized in Sulaimani daily due to diarrhea, vomiting

Director of Sulaimani Pediatric Hospital Dr. Pishdar Abdullah sees a child fallen ill with diarrhea and vomiting in Sulaimani city, July 14, 2021.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Up to 80 children fallen ill with diarrhea and vomiting are admitted to hospital in Sulaimani province every day, a health official said on Wednesday.

Director of Sulaimani Pediatric Hospital Dr. Pishdar Abdullah said the disease of diarrhea and vomiting among children were high in the province.

“But the rate is not as high as the level that the hospital will lose control over it,” Abdullah told Esta Media Network.

“Eighty to 100 children are fallen ill with diarrhea and vomiting every day,” the official said.

He added that authorities had warned that the number would increase if children were not protected.

Abdullah called on the province’s residents to boil water before drinking and to wash vegetables and fruits before eating.

In June, authorities in Sulaimani warned people of heat and foods and drinks that are stored in warm places, saying they could cause diarrhea and vomiting.

In general, Iraq is in the middle of a heatwave with temperatures rising above 50 degrees (122 Fahrenheit) during the day.
