SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Two rockets landed near al-Omar oilfield in Deir Ezzor northeast of Syria on Sunday, the U.S.-backed forces said.
“Two unidentified rocket-propelled grenades landed on the western side of the al-Omar oilfield used by our forces as an anti-Daesh forward base,” the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said in a tweet.
It further said no casualties were recorded among its fighters.
The Associated Press reported that a facility housing U.S. troops in eastern Syria came under attack when rockets were fired from nearby areas.
U.S.-led Coalition Spokesman Col, Wayne Marotto denied reports that there was an attack on the U.S. forces in eastern Syria.
“There is no truth to the reports that U.S. forces in Syria were attacked by rockets today,” Marotto tweeted.
The Pentagon told Al-Jazeera that there were no reports indicating any attack against U.S. forces in Syria.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the rockets were fired from areas controlled by Iran-backed fighters in the area of Mayadeen, also in Deir ez-Zor, according to AP.
The attack came six days after U.S. troops in eastern Syria came under a similar attack.
Last week’s attack came one day after U.S. Air Force aircraft carried out airstrikes near the Iraq-Syria border against facilities used by Iran-backed militia groups.
Hundreds of U.S. troops are stationed in northeastern Syria, supporting the SDF to fight against Islamic State (ISIS).
