Kurdistan Region reports record daily rise in new infections

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region has recorded a record one-day rise in the number of new coronavirus infections, with over 1,000 reported in the last 24 hours.

In a statement, the ministry of health said it had recorded 1,032 new cases in the past 24 hours in the Kurdistan Region.

The health ministry added that it had registered 326 new cases in Erbil, 243 in Sulaimani, 28 in Garmian, 93 in Raparin, 406 in Duhok and 29 in Halabja.

The ministry further said it had recorded 26 new deaths in the previous 24 hours. Six deaths were in Erbil, 10 in Sulaimani, three in Raparin, four in Duhok and three more in Halabja.

As many as 249 more patients had recovered from COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours, the ministry stated.

The Region’s total number of infections reached 62,735, of which 2,187 died and 37,833 recovered, according to figures released by the health ministry.
