SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Fierce clashes erupted between the Turkish military and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region’s Kani Mase sub-district late on Sunday, Esta’s reporter said.

Esta Media Network reporter said a big fighting had erupted between the Turkish military and the PKK fighters in the village of Hirure in the sub-district.

“Fighting is still ongoing,” he added.

Turkey has taken its decades-old conflict with the PKK deep into the Kurdistan Region, establishing military bases and deploying armed military drones against the fighters in their mountain strongholds.

Most of the operations have focused on territory up to 30 km (20 miles) from the border.

On Sunday, Turkish warplanes bombed a vehicle carrying four people in the village of Kanilan in Pshdar district, north of Sulaimani.
