AANES representation says KDP force detained its representatives

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The three representatives of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) were detained by forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), said a representative on Saturday.

Member of the AANES representation in Sulaimani Fathulla Husseini said the three persons were detained by a KDP force in Erbil as they went to welcome a group of European lawmakers and intellectuals.

On Thursday, security forces arrested PYD representatives Mustafa Khaleed and Mustafa Aziz and AANES representative Jihad Hiso at Erbil international airport.

“The KDP told us through the Kurdistan Region presidency that they held the three persons and that there is no threat on their life,” Husseini told Esta Media Network.

Husseini hoped the detainees would be released shortly after investigation, expressing concern over the “KDP’s act”.

“This will harm our relationship with the KDP,” he said.

“While the whole Kurdistan Region is at a big risk of Turkey, we need unity and harmony,” he added.

It is still unclear why the Kurdish representatives have been detained in Erbil.
