SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A senior Iraqi intelligence officer was killed on Monday after gunmen opened fire on him in an area east of Baghdad, according to Iraqi media.
Shafaq News cited a security source as saying that a group of unidentified gunmen opened fire at a vehicle the intelligence officer, Nibras Farman al-Faili, was driving in al-Baladiya area in Baghdad.
“Unidentified gunmen assassinated today an officer affiliated with the intelligence service, east of the capital Baghdad,” a security source told Al Arabiya.
Al Arabiya cited a source as saying that the targeting of the intelligence service came after it had foiled several operations that were planned against the Iraqi people.
There has been no official comment from Iraqi authorities regarding the incident.
In March, an officer of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS) was assassinated in Baghdad’s Mansour district.
