Iraqi intelligence units seize a cache of ammunition in Fallujah, June 2, 2021.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Iraqi forces seized a cache of ammunition including a large number of mortar rounds and rockets in Fallujah district, a military spokesman said on Wednesday.

Yehia Rasool, spokesman for commander-in-chief of the armed forces, said the federal intelligence units seized a cache of ammunition, including 107 mortar shells, 174 anti-aircraft missiles and Katyusha rockets in al-Maqali area in Fallujah.

“The ammunition belonged to Islamic State militants,” Rasool said in a tweet.

Coalition Spokesman Col. Wayne Marotto said intelligence and information sharing “plays a critical role” in the mission to defeat ISIS militants.

On Monday, the Iraqi forces also seized “5 Grad rockets and launchers” set to launch towards Erbil city from Kirkuk province.

The federal government announced victory over ISIS by the end of 2017 after Iraqi and Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led Coalition regained control of areas once captured by the militant group.

Despite its defeat, ISIS still poses a threat to the security and stability of the country as there are still sleeper cells in Iraq.
